The Ninth Tirumurai which is the shortest among the twelve Tirumurais is, indeed, a unique Tirumurai. The Ninth Tirumurai comprises two opuses, namely the Tiruvisaippa and the Tiruppallāndu. The total number of verses of the Tiruvisaippa is 288 and the total number of the Tiruppallāndu is 13.
The Tiruppallāndu comprising 13 verses only, be it known, is sui generis, a canonical work. The hymns of the Tiruvisaippa celebrate the glory of fourteen shrines.
The pans relating to the Ninth Tirumurai are six, they being Panjamum, Kāntāram, Puranērmai, Nattarāgam, Indalam and Sālarapāni. All the panns save Sālarapāni are panns met with in the Tevāram. No one is able to identify Sālarapāni even though it is referred to by the Saiva Āgamas.
Sixteen decads of the Ninth Tirumurai relate to Tillai. The remaining thirteen decads relate to the other thirteen shrines.
